Hiring a jazz band for your wedding is a timeless and elegant choice for cocktail hour. A jazz group can also be a great fit for dinner and dancing, especially if there is a vocalist. “Jazz” is a wide-ranging genre. There is a big difference between the music of John Coltrane and Michael Buble, but we have clients who request songs by both artists! Music Dept founder, Adam Lomeo, is a NYC jazz guitarist, so jazz is very near to our heart and we are so honored when our client’s request jazz music for their wedding.

Jazz groups are almost always a great choice for a cocktail hour. We don’t typically recommend Jazz music for ceremony. However, our jazz musicians are very versatile and can definitely play mellow instrumental covers or classical for your ceremony
If you and your guests love swing music like Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, and Mike Buble they will have a blast dancing to a jazz band. That said, if a great dance party is essential to your wedding we recommend a versatile band that can shift into some pop, R&B, and other dance friendly styles. It’s also great to combine a classic jazz band with a DJ.
Solo jazz guitar or keyboard are great choices for ceremony or cocktail hour. Duos, Trios, and Quartets are also great for upbeat and elegant atmosphere at any point during the wedding. If you want to feature a jazz band during your wedding reception we recommend 5 or more players and a vocalist.
Absolutely! Jazz musicians have extremely wide-repertoire. If you’re looking for jazz songs then chances are they already know them. However, if many of the requests are from an entirely different genre it might be a good idea to look at one of our other bands. We have bands that do a great play Jazz for cocktail hour as background, but the groups on this page can play a full evening of great and varied jazz songs.
